Artist's Comments

I went up to Leelanau County in Northern Michigan during the spring to take photos of the beautiful and plentiful cherry orchards that are up there. I missed doing so last year and was really disappointed, and wasn't going to let another spring go by without capturing their majesty!

Here are my other orchard pictures from the same visit:
Leelanau Cherries 01
Leelanau Cherries 02
Leelanau Cherries 04

I hope you enjoy! But please ask me first if you would like to use these photos anywhere for anything, please. Thanks! ^_^

Oh my god, I'm so jealous! These photos are beautiful, but there's no way they could possibly do the real thing justice.

I hope this isn't a total blond question here (you're welcome to laugh if you please), but when do the trees actually yield cherries?

Thank you so much for such a thoughtful comment! If I'm remembering correctly, you're the one that suggested I put these pictures up in my gallery. So I'm glad I listened to your advice, thank you! And I'm really glad you like them! ^_^

Even as pretty as they are, these pictures indeed do the orchards and the trees in them little justice. There's the sweet fragrance in the air and the soft sound of the blossoms swaying in the lake's breeze that I couldn't ever hope to fully capture in any medium. You just really have to be there to fully appreciate their true beauty. You must have peach tree orchards down by you somewhere down there, and they're very beautiful and fragrant too, so maybe you know this experience as well?

From what I observed during my two years living up there, and working at a grocery store that sold cherries from orchards local to it, I want to say the trees yield cherries mid to late June. It could even be a little earlier than that due to the processing and shipping involved with selling produce. But that's the general time we would start seeing them being sold and I'm guessing that's why the area's Cherry Festival is when it is (July 1st - 11th). Gee-whiz fact: there are two different kinds of cherries yielded during the harvesting season. The first harvest of cherries have a different tang than the next harvest. I want to say the first, younger harvest yields sour cherries (usually used for baking) and the following yields, that are plucked from other trees left to mature, are sweeter. But I could be wrong on which harvest is sweet or sour, so don't quote me on that...

Oh, and by the way, blond questions are good because they're always easy to answer, heehee. But, no, seriously, it wasn't a blond question. Even if it was, I think I ask enough of them myself on a daily basis to be immune to recognizing them at first anyway. XP

In all my years in Georgia, I've never even seen a peachtree, to be frank. I'm not saying they don't exist, but I imagine all of the peaches are grown way south of where I live (Atlanta is located in the northern part of the state). I bet it is a site to behold, but it's not one I've ever experienced. ):

Aww, I'm sorry you've never seen a peachtree! :noes:

My boyfriend graduated high school from Woodstock High (what a name!) and he said that's near Atlanta, have you heard of it? I've asked him before about peach trees too because I figured his sister, being the closet hippie she is, would have dragged him to a spot like a peach orchard, but he pretty much gave me the same answer as you. I was lucky all of this was so close to me, one orchard was even right across the street from my old house! But Georgia is so huge I'm sure it takes like five hours to get from one end to the other. I might be driving down to visit Florida this coming winter/spring, so if I see some peach trees blossoming on my trip I'll make sure to take some pictures for ya! Heehee XD

Georgia is surprisingly big. And you're right: it would probably take a five hour drive to see any peach orchards. In fact, my grandparents live near Peachtree City (we're obsessed with peach trees here in GA for some reason), and I have never seen a peach tree there at all. Oh the irony!

By the way, you're apparently on Facebook and now, so am I. It scanned my email and checked for people who also have Facebook, and it found you, so be sure to add me as your friend, if you want. ;D

I have a Facebook account?? When did I do that? :O_o: I hope I don't have any stupid pictures up! X_x

...Nevermind you already saw my stupid picture! XP Ha ha! Well, now you can be my friend. Added! Thanks! ^_^

No peach trees in Peachtree City? That is very ironic! XD
